The Romanian Royal Family: 1866-1947

Grateful thanks to Anca Stefanescu of Iowa State University for these series of repro-
ductions which she found in Romania.  Certainly the photographs are curiously, almost
obscurely, titled.  As an example, I do not think that even the severest critic of King
Ferdinand would have saddled him with the "Maternal Instinct" dedication he is given.

Though perhaps his daughter, Queen Marie of Yugolavia ("Mignon") is known for many
things, certainly the giver of light ("Prometheu") may not be said to be one of them.  At
least the irrepressible Queen Marie ("Missy") of Romania certainly has been captured
according to her reputation.  Please note the mentions of "sarute" (kisses) and "seara"
("evening"), and one can well get the gist of it.

Author, date of publication, and purpose of this Royal calender are not  known, alas.

N.B.: Update -- Recently, I have been informed that this series might belong to a calender
made earlier this decade in Romania. In turn, the attached poems are said to be penned
by Queen Elisabeth, under her well-known pseudonym, "Carmen Sylva". Thus, they
are not necessarily written specifically for each royal subject (clarifying many an archly
humourous reference above), but as a random tribute to the Royal Family. Any further
clarification is kindly sought.
