You can tell a whole lot about a person by the people he chooses to associate with. Therefore, I would probably be wise to not even have this page available, God only knows what kind of freak you are going to think I am! ; ) ...I'm just kidding. Ok, so maybe I'm not just kidding, but hey, I love these guys, and if you don't, well then you can just bite me. Have a nice day. : ) |
And this is Lindsay. : ) She was my "roommate", and in fact still
is, although things have changed considerably durring these past few
months... ; ) The correct term now would definitely be "girlfriend". I
can't even begin to describe how I feel about her, but I can say
that she's definitely one of the major reasons why the past two semesters
have been my happiest ever... And I am really happy that she's
become a part my life and I hope she plans on hanging around for a while
to continue the miracle involved with actually living with me and
still managaing to like me. ; ) Somehow, we seem to spend more time
together than I would have ever thought we had - and instead of smothering
each other, my favorite part of the day is still when I get to go
home and see her, and every day seems better than the one before. It's
amazing. : ) Want to take a peek at some of the other weirdos that I live with?
Heather Skye Cabiness... What do I say about Heather??? I guess just that
she's cool... and I like her a lot... and I'm really glad I can
call her a friend.: ) Heather ran off on us way back in the summer of '97, but thank God she hasn't disappeared. She may call Colorado home now, but I don't think she even called Florida home when she lived here. The coolest thing is that even though she lives nearly clear across the country, it really doesn't feel like she's that far away - guess that's because I know that sooner or later she'll be back (or we'll be there). : ) She's managed to get down here the past two winters, and undoubtedly I will *eventually* manage to get myself up to Colorado (I think I may be the only person in the world who hasn't been there yet). |

This here is a picture of our little clique up at camp from the summer of
97'. : ) I am quite happy to report that even though it has been nearly
two years since we all left camp, some of us are still as close (or even
more so) as ever. : ) Gretchel has run off to become an officer in the Air
Force, Chris is in the Navy, and Josiah is ever nearing graduation as a
teacher! Mere miles are no hinderance these days... thank God! At top, is
John, then the next "row" is me and David (with the crazy hair) (these
were the weirdos that I had the pleasure of sharing a bunk - and the 13
11-year-olds that also inhabited it - with), then its Frances poking her
head out from behind Josiah, Chris apparently with his Head on Jo's
shoulder, Hawk with his big ol' bald head and way out on the end is
Gretchel. This picture was taken one night during "pre-camp" before the
kids actually arrived. At this point, we had all known each other only a
few days, and we had absolutely no idea just how close we would all get in
just nine short (but oh, they felt so long) weeks. For more of
these guys and all sorts of other summer camp madness, check out my Summer Camp '97 page.
And here are two of my ex-roommates ...er, apartmentmates... or
whatever... (Larry on the left, Wael on the right). This was the European
1/2 of our apartment, Austrian actually, to be more specific, although
each will swear they are absolutely not Austrian. This will be my third
year with Wael. First, it was just the 2 of us in a dorm way up on the
seventh floor of Pearson Residential College, then our apartment, where we
brought in Robert and Larry, and now this year, the two of us have moved
into a house with four other jokers! ...at least we
can be sure of one thing, it can't help but be interesting... And while we
are totally abandoning Larry and Rob, we sure hope we won't lose them...
in fact, I think I've seen more of Rob this year than last! ; )... And as
for Larry, we still need to get him that raft and let him sleep in the
pool. ; ) This is a picture of their first experience with s'mores, what a
shame that these poor Europeans all live under a rock and miss out on such
wonderful American treats. I think its pretty evident that they enjoyed
their cultural enrichment. Sadly, these were only pseudo s'mores - we
couldn't get a fire going, so we made them on our propane stove! ; ) And
on an only vaguely related note: I think I have decided to put out
a book someday too... going to call it "Things American", or "Wael Gets an
Ant Bite, and 1,000 other firsts". In one single trip, he got that ant
bite, we got him in his first canoe, and then he saw his first alligator,
but alas, we still have so far to go. He hasn't even been to a Wendy's
yet! We finally got him to a Wendy's! And
they were out of chicken.... again! ; )
There's the old saying "If you can't take the heat, get out of the
kitchen"; well, if you are cooking with me, its more like "If you don't
want a face-full of flour, don't even show up." ; ) This is the aftermath
of just one of the many flour fights we've had. Going clockwise
from the top left, you have Rob (the fourth, and most elusive roommate)
trying to lick Larry, then Chris, Sook (with the baseball cap and the big,
cheesy smile), me, Heather, and Wael, with the opposite of a black eye, a
white eye, : ). As for these cooking exploits, if you'd like to check out
a little bit more on the subject (like maybe get my own, personal recipe
for chocolate chip cookies), check out my Nonsense
page.
And then here's Liz when we were working on Pearson Residential College's
float for the homecoming parade my sophomore year. On a little side note,
I got a 1/3 page (close-up) picture of me on the float in the Yearbook,
and the funny thing is that I didn't even live in Pearson that year! Liz
was my Physics buddy for 2 semesters (thanks to her, I caught far less
Zzzs in there than I would have otherwise) and the last two
semesters it been weekly lunches at the Rat and the occasional volunteer
job. ; ) And by random chance, next semester we *should* both be living in
the same apartment complex! Plans are already in the works for a weekly
dinner... maybe something like the first time Larry and I ever went over
to her apartment: we went over to break the place in - make some cookies
(and the mess that will certainly follow) and try our hardest to be
disruptive all the way through the 90210 season finale!"... and man, was
that part about a mess right! ...heehee... as I recall, it was easier to
eat the cookies with a spoon than your fingers.... : ) Elizabeth has
just been awarded a fellowship to do research on the West Coast (of
the US, not Florida, silly!) this summer - what a smarty! : )
Congrat's! Kit!!! : ) Here's one of the few pictures I have of
the illustrius Kit. A few years back, we met through a mutual friend. Now
he's gone, but we are ever greatful to him for bringing us together. She's
one of those home-schooled freaks, but that's ok, we like her anyway... ;
) This picture was taken up in Maine, very near Acadia National Park,
where the two of us camped on the beach one night during a recent road
trip that included a week with her and her family (who is all just as cool
as she is : ) ) up in Maine. She's a bit of a wanderer, and never seems to
be around for quite long enough, with homes in Florida, Maine, school in
Washington State, and God only knows how many other places she ends up.
And she just recently returned to Washington from studying abroad in
Edinburgh, Scotland (and of course a good bit of side travel ; ) ) But
thanks to email and our ever crossing paths, it always feels like she's
right next door, because the simple fact is that whenever either one of us
has to get back on the road, its only a matter of time until we meet
again.
Here, we have another Heather (H. Leigh Hundhausen), hamming it up with me on our skates out by the library. (And notice my skates too; not them newfangled rollerblades! ; ) ) Sook's taking the picture, and for a while, skating was a regular pastime for the three of us. Thankfully, although Heather was a part of the graduating class of '98, she decided to stick around. She spends her days working on campus so she can spend her nights at massage school. And now she's even thinking about sticking around to get her masters here at UM!!! She's a really amazing person just in general, but Heather is an especially awesome person to cook with... or should I say for me to cook with... we kind of share a style - we seem to be measuring impared and rely on probably a bit too much of our own guestimating abilities... but sometimes it produces really yummy results! And if you go a few pictures back up the page, you can see that we really like to get into our work... ; ) Unfortunately being the girl that she is, she won't even try to keep up with me once the brownies are out of the oven... although she'll stand there drooling as she insists she doesn't want any. Want to check out some of our recipies? Go to my nonsense page and find them! And this is a picture of a whole bunch of us at the "Midnight
Breakfast", fall semester, 1998. That was an awesome night! See if
you can figure out who is who... (hint: I'm taking the picture, so I'm not
in there.) ; ) You can check your answers by clicking on people with your
mouse. |
